What will you discover?

The Peace River region of Florida is home to one of the most important fossil deposits in the world. Fossils in this region range from the Miocene Epoch (about 23 million years ago) to the Pleistocene (about 10,000 years ago). The fossils found here include those of the extinct megafauna (giant mammals), such as mastodons, mammoths, and giant sloths, and extinct animals like saber-toothed cats, dire wolves, and armadillos along with the dozen of species of shark teeth and the sought-after megalodon tooth. There have also been fossils of early humans and their stone tools found in the area.

We offer fossil-hunting tours for families, groups, and individuals interested in discovering and collecting fossils. The excursions are chartered by master captains who will take you to the best hunting sites along the ancient riverbed and share their knowledge and expertise on the fossils you may find.

All the necessary fossil hunting tools and equipment are provided! Don’t worry about the gear. We have it all on-site.

*Please note that this is a chartered hunt, and our captains will be taking you in powered Jon boats. We provide all life jackets and safety gear. Although the Jon boats are not loud, we do provide ear protection for adults and children upon request.

Lunch is included in both half-day and full-day trips. Lunch is catered by a local restaurant. Due to seasonal menu changes, we will provide the most up-to-date menu on the morning of check-in.

When preparing for a fossil hunt, please remember to bring the following:

A pair of shoes you don’t mind taking in the river (water shoes or an old pair of sneakers work fine)

Food and snacks

Drinks (bring plenty of water!)

Towels and dry clothing

Sunscreen and bug-repellant

Please dress for the occasion. A bathing suit, shorts, hat, UV long-sleeve shirt, or wetsuit (Dec-Feb) are all good options.

Educational programs are available for those interested in learning more about the area’s geology, paleontology, and archaeology. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the river and discover fossils, learn about the area’s history and inhabitants, and gain insight into the scientific process of fossil hunting. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned fossil enthusiast, we provide a unique experience for all ages.
